(7277) Groundwater contamination
The pollution of water that occurs beneath the earth’s surface. Can affect the water quality from springs and wells. Can result from nutrients applied intentionally to crops or landscaped areas or indiscriminate land disposal of potentially hazardous waste materials. Such contaminants are then dissolved or suspended in free liquids, usually water, and leached downward through the unsaturated profile to the zone of saturation. May also result from improperly constructed or operated wells.
